The Department of Employment has just published a statistical analysis on employment and the gainfully employed population in the Principality in 2008.
The facts:
- The number of state employees and civil servants has remained more or less identical compared to the previous year: 42 employees fewer compared to 2007 and a total of 95 more state employees and civil servants in the last five years, i.e. a 2.46% increase. This sector represents 8.13% of the total gainfully employed population;
- The gainfully employed population in the private sector has continued to grow: 5 963 more employees in five years, i.e. a 15.38 % increase in the total workforce and a 3.64% increase compared to last year;
- Consequently there are 44,736 employees registered this year in the private sector which represents 91.87% of the total gainfully employed population.
