Responsibilities

Since its creation the Prince’s Carabiniers’ mission has been to protect the Palace, with the changing of the guard every day at 11.55 a.m., to attend to the security of His Serene Highness the Sovereign Prince and his Family, to provide him with duty of honour, to attend to the fulfilment of laws and to participate in maintaining law and order.

The Prince’s Company of Carabiniers carries out duties of honour in full uniform in the Principality. On “requisition”, it escorts the Judicial Body. It takes part in official, civil and religious ceremonies, in military parades and processions.

It has a band, made up of 26 carabinier musicians, under the orders of a sergeant. Since 1978, this band has been called the “Fanfare of the Prince’s Company of Carabiniers”.

It also assumes various public service responsibilities. With the establishment of a military first aid unit, the Prince’s Company of Carabiniers makes use of ambulances belonging to the Monegasque Red Cross. As such, it is involved in maintaining security at major sporting and artistic events that take place in the Principality, which necessitate rescue and evacuation procedures. It may also be involved, if need be, in implementing contingency plans such as, the “Red plan”, the “Ormose plan” (the Monegasque assistance organisation plan).

It collects young children every day on behalf of the "Foyer Sainte-Dévote" crèche and takes care of transporting disabled people at the request of the Monegasque Red Cross.

The Prince’s Company of Carabiniers has a team of deep-sea divers who are regularly asked to play an active role in implementing safety measures and to help in various rescue missions during the numerous water-sports competitions that take place in Monegasque waters. The team also takes part in underwater scientific observation studies to monitor pollution in the Mediterranean.

It boasts a motorbike squad that has daily duties, and is in charge of escorting H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and Heads of State during visits to the Principality.

Currently, it numbers 112 men : 3 officers, 15 non-commissioned officers and 94 junior rank.
