The Academy of Music (formerly known as the Municipal Music School until 1956) was founded in 1921 by the Monegasque Government, as they were keen to boost musical knowledge within the Principality. At the beginning, the school only provided basic musical training under the guidance of its first director, renowned cellist and composer Louis Abbiate.
Today, the Academy of Music boasts a state-of-the-art, cutting-edge infrastructure, with over 50 professors offering extensive musical tuition to more than 750 pupils of 28 different nationalities. Open to students from the ages of 5 to 25, the Foundation Prince Rainier III Academy of Music plays a key socio-cultural role, both with regard to developing musical culture and to training musicians. In addition, it is the ideal setting to follow a foundation course in professionalism.
Split into three fields of study (short and long term programmes in addition to a specially adapted «National Education» schedule), the curriculum is subdivided into four main areas, the objectives of which are to develop technical mastery, artistic intelligence, autonomy and creativity. |
