The Maison des Océans played host to the first evening of lectures to be presented in Paris by Philosophical Encounters in Monaco on 28 March. At the invitation of Charlotte Casiraghi and the founding members of Philosophical Encounters, philosophers Frédéric Gros and Marc Crépon, along with sociologist Gisèle Sapiro, spoke on the theme: “Philosophy today: crisis and new challenges.”

During her speech, Charlotte Casiraghi welcomed the association’s partnership with the Government and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, which has resulted in workshops that have enabled philosophy to be introduced to classrooms starting at a very young age.

Founded in 2015 by Charlotte Casiraghi, Joseph Cohen, Robert Maggiori and Raphael Zagury-Orly, Philosophical Encounters in Monaco aims to open up philosophy to as many people as possible through presenting thematic lecture series. Following on from love and the body, the theme for the 2017-2018 lecture series in Monaco will be violence.

This first Paris event, an eclectic affair featuring the art of philosophy, the art of dance, culinary inventiveness and a concert by Mathieu Chedid and Yaron Herman, was an opportunity to announce the colloquium to be held in Monaco on 7 and 8 June on: “The time for conversation”.
