On Thursday 12 May, the final conference of the 2015–2016 academic year, devoted to the major challenges facing today’s world, was held in the Main Amphitheatre of Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School before a large and attentive audience. The conference was the final event in a series of discussions focused on strategic issues that the Monaco Méditerranée Foundation, chaired by Mr Enrico BRAGGIOTTI, offered to the Principality’s secondary school pupils.

Under the high patronage of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, these sessions were organised in close collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, under the responsibility of Ms Isabelle Bonnal, in partnership with the Institut Français des Relations Internationales (IFRI, French Institute for International Relations), led by Thierry de Montbrial, and with the support of Ni Box Monaco.

The final conference was dedicated to the theme “The Mediterranean: current situation and demographic prospects”, and was presented by Mr Gérard-François Dumont, a professor at the University of Paris IV and Director of the Populations et Avenir (Populations and Future) journal.

Throughout the year, IFRI specialists – experts in the fields of urban planning, technology and geopolitics – have given presentations to secondary school pupils, who have shown a keen interest in the various strategic issues discussed.

It is important to remember that the main objective of the sessions organised by the Monaco Méditerranée Foundation is to invite the Principality’s pupils to be aware of the choices that they will need to make as they build their future. To this end, an informed understanding of geopolitical, social and economic trends is essential.

This initiative, which has received a very positive response from speakers and pupils, will be repeated during the 2016–2017 academic year.
