Resurfacing work on Grand Prix circuit

©Direction de la Communication – Michael Alesi

As we approach the 5th Monaco e-Prix (30 April 2022), the 13th Monaco Historic Grand Prix (13–15 May 2022), and the 79th Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix (26–29 May 2022), the Department of Urban Amenities will be carrying out road resurfacing work on part of the circuit, just as it has done in previous years. Work will again be extended to other areas of the city too.

This year, the following roads will be resurfaced: the pit lane (Quai Albert I); Rue Grimaldi; Avenue d’Ostende; Boulevard Albert I; Avenue des Spélugues (Fairmont hairpin bend); Louis II Tunnel; Route de la Piscine (northern dock); Rascasse and Noghès corners; Rue Bel Respiro; Rue Bellevue.

The work will be carried out in two phases:
• The first phase involves planing the top portion of the roadway to a depth of 5 cm.
• In the second phase, a new layer of asphalt is laid and the road is rebuilt.

The equipment required will be stored on the Louis Chiron corner, where parking will be prohibited from 22 February 2022. To minimise disruption to traffic as far as possible, the work itself will be carried out during the night, from 28 February to 16 March 2022, according to the following schedule:

The various bus services affected by the areas where work is taking place will be diverted between 8 pm and 6 am. Information will be made available to users in advance.

Further details on the impact that this work may have will also be provided to local residents by means of posters and leaflets posted through letterboxes. Appropriate road signs will be in place, particularly on days when users will have to drive on planed asphalt.

The work carried out in advance of the Grand Prix events, as well as regular resurfacing efforts, mean that the Principality has a particularly well-maintained urban road network. The surface used on the F1 circuit offers higher performance in terms of resistance and the prevention of tearing. It has specific properties that meet the requirements of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.
