Cooperation on blood transfusion

On Friday 23 February a working meeting led by the Minister of Health and Social Affairs Didier Gamerdinger was held at the Ministry of State as part of efforts to develop a blood transfusion cooperation agreement between Princess Grace Hospital and the Etablissement Français du Sang (EFS) PACA-CORSE (the regional branch of the French national blood authority for Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Corsica). The meeting was attended by François Hebert, EFS Deputy Managing Director, and representatives from EFS PACA-CORSE and Princess Grace Hospital.

The purpose of the agreement is to implement the Agreement to Cooperate on Blood Transfusion between the Principality of Monaco and the Government of the French Republic, signed on 13 July 2017.

It will set out the conditions for cooperation between the two organisations, and will allow the Blood Transfusion Centre at Princess Grace Hospital to call on EFS for support, notably in the preparation of labile blood products and the distribution of such products in Monaco, which meets extremely strict standards.

The Principality will continue to participate in blood donation efforts, as the Princess Grace Hospital’s Blood Transfusion Centre will retain responsibility for collecting blood.
The Principality has a tradition, a history and a very strong commitment to donating blood, and the Prince’s Government, Amicale des Donneurs de Sang (Blood Donors’ Association) and Monaco Red Cross, associations chaired by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, will be able to continue their activities in this area.

Discussions at the meeting were extremely constructive and the draft agreement should take shape in the near future.
