On Wednesday 9 March 2016, the first stone of the Riadh emergency fire station was laid in Nouakchott, Mauritania. This will be third emergency fire station built in the Mauritanian capital with funding from the Prince’s Government since 2010.

As part of the Principality of Monaco’s civil defence assistance programme for Mauritania, the Prince’s Government is supporting the construction of infrastructure on behalf of the Mauritanian Civil Protection Directorate in areas of the country’s capital Nouakchott which are not currently protected.

The foundation-laying ceremony was held in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Mauritanian Ministry of the Interior and Decentralisation, Mr Baba Ould Boumeiss, the Mauritanian Director General of Civil Protection, Colonel Ahmed Ould Eleyouta, and Monaco’s Honorary Consul in Mauritania, Mr Aly Guéladio Kamara.

Measuring 377 m² in area, this emergency station will be able to accommodate up to 15 Mauritanian Civil Protection firefighters to ensure the safety of the Riadh district. The construction project, which is being supervised by Monaco company Eco SYSTEM, should be completed during 2016.

Once this third station funded by the Prince’s Government is complete, Nouakchott will have six emergency stations, covering two thirds of districts in the capital.

As part of this partnership, every year Monaco’s Fire and Emergency Service sends supplies, equipment and fire engines, and provides training in Mauritania and Monaco for the Mauritanian Civil Protection Directorate.
