From 22 to 26 January, for the fourth consecutive year, the Department of International Cooperation (DCI) organised a week of themed teaching for first-year students at the Middle East-Mediterranean Campus of Sciences Po in Menton, for the Winter School.

At this event, the DCI's partners, who are recognised players in the field of development aid (the International Committee of the Red Cross, the World Food Programme, Handicap International, etc.) gave presentations on the basic principles of humanitarian aid and the specific issues related to humanitarian crises, such as health, nutrition and disability.

First of all, for two days, the students focused on the specific situation of Lebanon, with speeches by the Ambassador of Lebanon to France, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Finally, the founding president of Samusocial, Dr. Xavier Emmanuelli, brought the week to a close with a presentation on the circumstances that have led to people to a situation of exile, and the care of these people.

As a side-event to this week, the Prince's Government, represented by Mr. Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Ms. Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Ministry, signed two agreements:  the first with the UNHCR's Office in Lebanon, with regard to its schooling programme for Syrian children, and the second with the Handicap International Federation, to support its new campaign against the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.

"Monaco, according to the means at its disposal, seeks not only to contribute to a more stable, fairer, more generous world, but also to transmit values and ways of thinking, and this is what we wished to do with you this week," concluded Mr. Gilles Tonelli in his speech.
