The tenth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Cuba was celebrated at the Monegasque Chancery in Paris on 15 December 2017.

H.E. Mr Claude Cottalorda, the Principality of Monaco’s Ambassador in France, and H.E. Mr Elio Eduardo Rodriguez Perdomo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to France and the Principality of Monaco, commemorated the event surrounded by diplomats from their Embassies.

In his speech, H.E. Mr Cottalorda recalled that the two countries shared a determination to achieve full sovereignty and independence. He emphasised the popularity of Cuban and Havana culture, chosen as the theme for the Rose Ball in Monaco in 2016. Finally, H.E. Mr Cottalorda set out the challenges common to both countries, particularly in addressing climate change, and expressed his wish that ocean conservation would become an area of cooperation between the two nations.

H.E. Mr Rodriguez Perdomo talked about H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco’s visit to Cuba in 2001 and highlighted the opportunities for developing relations between Cuba and Monaco in economic and sporting fields.

The Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Cuba established diplomatic relations on 19 December 2007 when the then Ambassadors, H.E. Mr Jacques Boisson for Monaco and H.E. Mr Rogelio Sanchez Levis for Cuba, signed a joint declaration.
