Diplomacy – Accreditation of representatives from Senegal – Argentina – Quebec

On Thursday 15 December 2016, Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, received H.E. Mr Bassirou Sene, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Senegal, H.E. Mr Jorge Marcelo Faurie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina, and Ms Line Beauchamp, General Delegate of Quebec, who presented their credentials to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince during the morning.

Following their discussions, an official lunch hosted by Gilles Tonelli was held at the Hotel Hermitage.

Following a career in the Ministry of the Interior, H.E. Mr Bassirou Sene joined the Senegalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Counsellor in 1994. In 1998, he was posted to the Senegalese Embassy in Ethiopia; in 2004 he joined the African Union as Counsellor for Political Affairs. From 2008 to 2010, he was Technical Counsellor in the Office of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2014, he has served as the Senegalese Ambassador to Ethiopia and to Switzerland.

 H.E. Mr Jorge Marcelo Faurie joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship in 1985. He was appointed to successive posts as Embassy Counsellor, Head of the Political Section and Head of Chancery at the Argentinean Embassy in Chile. He returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship in 1992, where he served first as Minister-Counsellor and Head of Chancery, and subsequently as Director of Mercosur, Secretariat Chief of Staff and National Director of Protocol. In 2000, he became Political Coordinator for the Government of Buenos Aires Province, before being appointed as Argentinean Ambassador to Portugal and then to the General Directorate for Cultural Affairs.

Elected as a member of the Quebec National Assembly in 1998, Ms Beauchamp has held important posts within the Quebec Government. Appointed as Minister of Culture and Communications in 2003, she went on to become Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks in 2007, before taking charge of the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sports from 2010 to 2012. She was appointed Deputy Premier of Quebec from 2011 to 2012. In 2013, Ms Beauchamp worked in the private sector as a strategic advisor, before being called to take up a diplomatic post. She has represented the Government of Quebec within Canada’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO for two years.
