Monaco Explorations - Départ du Yersin

The Yersin, an ecological research vessel, left the port of Monaco at 10 pm on 27 July 2017 for a 36-month voyage around the world. The ship’s goal is to provide the international scientific community with a travelling research platform, which will host a series of researchers from across the world over three years. The Prince’s Government is actively supporting this research programme by making available human, material and financial resources.

The initiative will be based on the recommendations of a Scientific Guidance Committee (SGC), made up of 10 internationally renowned scientists and led by Professor Rampal, whose first objective will be to select research programmes and choose projects. It will be complemented by awareness-raising, communications and media activities.

On 4 April, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince launched the 2017/2020 Monaco Explorations initiative, reviving, after a gap of 120 years, the maritime scientific explorations pioneered by his great-great-grandfather Prince Albert I.

Three reports about the Yersin are available on Monaco Info, covering:

  •       the vessel’s science laboratories
  •       its departure from the Port of Monaco
  •       an expanded report on the Yersin’s departure.
