Public health policy
The Monegasque Government has made health a priority that permeates many areas of its action. Beyond being a fundamental right and a key factor in individual fulfilment, health is also a strategic lever for attractiveness, social cohesion and collective performance.
A world-leading public health policy for all
Guided by an ambitious and humanistic vision, the Government’s policy seeks to ensure that every individual – child, parent, senior or person with disabilities – enjoys equitable access to high-quality care, tailored support and an inclusive society. By investing in prevention, health education, specialised medicine and social support, the Principality reaffirms its standing as a recognised point of reference in the international public-health landscape.
An exceptional healthcare system
These results stem from a cutting-edge medical ecosystem that attracts patients, healthcare professionals and partners from across the globe:
- The Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG), a leading institution recognised both for its high-quality local care and for its centres of excellence in oncology, cardiology and geriatrics
- Specialised institutions with international reach:
- Monaco Institute of Sports Medicine and Surgery
- Monaco Cardiothoracic Centre
- Monaco Private Dialysis Centre
- An extensive network of local doctors, pharmacists, and paramedics ensuring seamless access to all medical specialties.
- A local doctor on-call service ensures continuous access to care 7 days a week from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. via the number 116 117.
Prevention, education and innovation: the pillars of sustainable health
The Monegasque Government’s health strategy is also built on an active, forward-looking and inclusive prevention policy:
- Health education from an early age in schools and social institutions
- Public health campaigns: prevention of cervical cancer through vaccination against human papillomavirus, prevention of smoking, addiction, diabetes, melanoma, sexually transmitted infections, etc.
- Anonymous and free individual screening for HIV infection, hepatitis B and C, and sexually transmitted infections.
- Systematic screening organized by the Centre Monégasque de Dépistage:
- Support for people struggling with addiction
- Support and care for mental health issue
- Prevention and awareness campaigns to promote a high-quality environment: combating heat waves, air pollution, mosquitoes, etc
- Enhanced health surveillance to prevent pandemics and detect emerging diseases
- Control of notifiable diseases
This integrated approach helps reduce health inequalities while ensuring a healthy and protective environment for the entire population.
Families and children: a safe and nurturing environment
Monaco’s public-health policy actively supports families in their daily lives. To this end, the Government has developed targeted initiatives enabling younger generations to grow up in a healthy, balanced and safe environment:
- Specific programmes for maternal and child health
- Support for parents in teaching children and adolescents about health
- A high-quality range of paediatric and psychological care
- Support schemes for families experiencing vulnerability or isolation
Seniors: autonomy, care and dignity at the heart of government action
Monaco has developed a comprehensive geriatric care system that enables older adults to remain active participants in their own health, while benefiting from high levels of support and a preserved quality of life.
Its effectiveness relies on:
- Specialised departments within the Princess Grace Hospital
- Enhanced home-care services
- Programmes to prevent loss of autonomy
- Personalised and compassionate social support
Disability: an inclusive, modern and accessible society
The Principality of Monaco has made the inclusion of people with disabilities a national priority through the proactive HANDIPACT policy. This initiative focuses in particular on several key priorities:
- Accessibility of buildings, particularly cultural and sports venues, as well as public spaces and transport systems
- Support for independent living, through adapted housing, personal services and daily assistance
- Promotion of social and professional inclusion, through dedicated facilities and proactive policies
