"Bringing nature back to the city": The Prince's Government unveils its vision for tomorrow's Monaco

In response to the impacts of climate change, in one of the world's most densely urbanised territories, the Prince's Government is unveiling "Bringing nature back to the city", a strategic vision for tomorrow's Monaco.

Supported by a comprehensive study prepared by Grant Associates, the initiative sets out the guiding principles that will progressively shape urban planning and development projects across the Principality. It provides a strategic framework for strengthening Monaco's resilience, enhancing quality of life over the long term, preserving biodiversity and giving nature a greater place in the Principality's future development.

Christophe Mirmand, Minister of State, said "In a vertical city as densely urbanised as ours, it is clear that one of our foremost responsibilities is to plan the city of tomorrow while taking into account the need to tackle challenges such as urban heat islands, so that the people of Monaco can continue to enjoy a high quality of life when the effects of climate change become most severe. This is essential to the Principality's attractiveness, but it is equally important for public health and social well-being".

This vision is already influencing the way Government projects are conceived. From the earliest stages of design, it encourages the integration of nature, climate comfort, landscape quality and public use into every project, helping to create developments that are both more resilient and more enjoyable places in which to live.

Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, added: "This approach guides us from the very beginning of every project we undertake, including public infrastructure projects where, for technical reasons, large public spaces have traditionally been highly mineral in character. Today, we are rethinking these spaces to incorporate more nature, because natural features and operational requirements are entirely compatible. We must also ensure that pedestrians, whether moving through public or private developments, never lose sight of Monaco's magnificent views over the Mediterranean, allowing their gaze to remain drawn towards the blue horizon".
