Monaco Assumes the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe
On 15 May 2026, Ms Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, took part in the 135th Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, held in Chișinău*, at the conclusion of which the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers was transferred from the Republic of Moldova to the Principality of Monaco.
Discussions during the Session focused in particular on the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, democratic resilience in Europe, the management of international migration, as well as the fight against foreign interference and information manipulation.
In her statement, Ms BERRO-AMADEÏ called for respect for the fundamental principles and values that unite the member States of the Council of Europe.
She was presented with the symbolic keys of the Committee of Ministers at a time when the European continent is facing threats that are weakening democracies and when the role of the Council of Europe must be reaffirmed.
The Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, which Monaco is assuming for the first time since its accession to the Council of Europe, from 15 May to 10 November 2026, is guided by a clear ambition: “Protecting everyone, through an effective Organisation, in response to contemporary challenges.”
