Ongoing Hot Weather: Let Us All Remain Vigilant

The current spell of hot weather is continuing. In light of the risks associated with rising temperatures, the Prince’s Government is calling on everyone to exercise the utmost vigilance, particularly towards the most vulnerable members of the population.

Prolonged exposure to heat can lead to dehydration or heatstroke, which may sometimes be severe. Infants, young children, pregnant women, older persons and people living with chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable.

Healthy individuals are not immune, however. Athletes, outdoor workers and anyone exposed to heat for prolonged periods should also adopt the appropriate precautions to protect themselves.

A few simple measures can help prevent the effects of heat: 

• Drink at least 1.5 litres of water throughout the day;
• Cool down regularly;
• Limit outings and avoid physical activity during the hottest hours of the day;
• Keep your home cool by closing shutters and windows during the day;
• Check regularly on relatives and neighbours, particularly those who are isolated or vulnerable.

Everyone’s vigilance is essential to protect the most vulnerable and to get through this period of hot weather safely.
