Department of Cultural Affairs
The Cultural Affairs Department is composed of two divisions:
- An administrative division responsible for implementing all the State's cultural policy actions : organising events, monitoring support schemes, etc.
- A division responsible for the State's cultural facilities such as Rainier III Auditorium, Variety Theatre, Fort Antoine Theatre, Exhibition Hall on Quai Antoine I and the Studios de la Costa.
The Cultural Affairs Department also includes:
- The Heritage Institute has managed the State's heritage : restoration, conservation and promotion
- The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology is dedicated to preserving and developing the State's archaeological collections and supports research, excavations, archaeological missions, and the hosting of student researchers
Under the Sovereign Ordinance n°6.707 of 11 December 2017, this Department is tasked with:
- Providing the Prince's Government with state cultural policy proposals and to implement them accordingly
- Monitoring, coordinating and promoting the work of cultural associations
- Overseeing or managing cultural associations whose significance or international standing falls within the scope of government action
- Overseeing the management of the Heritage Institute, the department responsible for compiling and maintaining an inventory of the State's artistic heritage, works of art and the national furniture collection, conserving this heritage and, more generally, fulfilling all heritage-related duties
- Overseeing the management of the Monaco Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology, a department responsible for preserving and developing its collections, promoting research, excavations and archaeological projects, and hosting student researchers
- Overseeing the technical and administrative management of state-owned cultural facilities (Rainier III Auditorium, Variety Theatre, Quai Antoine I Exhibition Hall, Fort Antoine Theatre, Studios de la Costa, Railings in the St Martin Gardens) to ensure they remain fully operational
- Fulfilling an international cultural cooperation mission and ensuring compliance with cultural agreements of which the Principality is a signatory
- Organising additional theatre performances, concerts, festivals, exhibitions, cultural forums, etc.
- Undertaking any other tasks within the cultural sector as assigned under specific legislation or regulations
