1506 : Last attempt of the Genoese to recover the Rocher

The new Genoese government took advantage of the people’s revolt against the noble families and the French occupying power to try and reestablish their domination over Monaco. On 7 December they laid siege to the fortress. Lord Lucien Grimaldi was seeking out the support of the Duke of Savoy, suzerain of Menton and Roquebrune, but help came from France, instead. The encirclement lasted until 19 March 1507, when the Genoese launched an attack on the fort of Serravalle. It was a merciless battle, which ended with the victory of the Monegasques, who were under the command of Lucien. He immediately recovered Roquebrune and Menton, with the support of the French troops.
