2026 : 20 Years of the Embassy of Monaco in the United States — A Year of History and Friendship
In 2026, the Principality of Monaco will mark the 20th anniversary of its Embassy in Washington, a symbolic milestone reflecting a diplomatic presence that is now firmly established.
This commemorative year also coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, providing an opportunity to highlight the depth and longevity of the ties between the two countries. More than a symbolic anniversary, this milestone reflects a form of diplomacy rooted in culture and innovation, and focused on sustained dialogue between institutions and civil society.
In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed in the spring with America 250 (https://america250.org/), the bipartisan body coordinating the national celebrations of the 250th anniversary of American Independence. The signing will take place at the Ambassador’s Residence, the former home of the 29th President of the United States, Warren G. Harding, and will be followed by a reception bringing together institutional partners and friends involved in these commemorations.
The year 2026 will also mark the 70th anniversary of the wedding of H.S.H. Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly, a lasting symbol of the human and cultural bond between the Principality and the United States. On this occasion, the Embassy will launch a cultural initiative, in partnership with the Princess Grace Foundation–USA and the Smithsonian Institution, highlighting the legacy associated with Princess Grace through an approach that is both historical and contemporary.
In the same spirit, particular attention will be given to Philadelphia, Grace Kelly’s birthplace. A series of highlights will take place throughout 2026 in Washington, New York, and other partner cities, including institutional meetings, cultural events, and philanthropic initiatives bringing together friends of Monaco, cultural leaders, private partners, and representatives of the public sector.
Finally, as part of America 250, Monaco plans to issue a commemorative stamp series marking this historic anniversary and celebrating the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
Details of the programme will be published progressively on monacoeventsusa.com as arrangements are finalised.
