Department of Cultural Affairs - Photo Exhibition “Heritage at Risk” - Until 4 October 2026 on the railings of the Saint-Martin Gardens
The Department of Cultural Affairs inaugurated on Wednesday 8 April, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the exhibition of the winners of the photography competition for young people aged 11 to 25, on the theme “Heritage at Risk”, in line with the 2026 edition of the European Heritage Days.
This theme highlights the threats facing both tangible cultural heritage (such as artworks and furnishings, architecture, written and graphic works, built landscapes, gardens and archaeological sites) and intangible heritage (including traditions, language, performing arts, rituals and festive events, traditional craftsmanship and gastronomy), such as climate change, natural disasters, societal changes, urbanisation and mass tourism. It encouraged participants to reflect on what cultural heritage represents and to consider ways of preserving it.
This second edition continues the initiative’s aim of engaging young people in the preservation of Monaco’s heritage and promoting the artistic expression of the Principality’s youth.
The competition, open from 15 January to 15 March, revealed a wide range of original perspectives from young participants on Monaco’s heritage.
An expert jury, composed of Stéphane Bern, a leading figure in heritage promotion, internationally renowned photographer and documentary-maker Nick Danziger, as well as several personalities from Monaco’s cultural sector, selected 15 photographs from the submissions. These works are now on display on the railings of the Saint-Martin Gardens at Le Rocher until 4 October, marking the European Heritage Days in the Principality.
In addition, three “Jury’s Special Awards” were selected and presented by H.S.H. on Wednesday 8 April during the official opening of the exhibition (three categories: ages 11–14, 15–18 and 19–25).
The public is invited to discover this exhibition, free of charge, until 4 October 2026.
The three “Jury’s Special Awards”:
Stacy FORMOSA – « Ma chère Principauté »
- Elisa FABRIS LAGRASSA – « A lenga munegascu ün periculu »
- Anne-Sophie THEROUE – « Mémoire fragile derrière une grille »
