Facing Water Challenges: Monaco Residents Invited to Share Their Views

Société Monégasque des Eaux (SMEAUX), the State’s water service concession holder, is fully aligned with the policy pursued by the Prince’s Government and is launching a new initiative. Combining public awareness-raising with a study of water-use practices among residents of the Principality, SMEAUX aims to further optimise its management of water resources and meet the highest environmental standards.

Water is an essential resource, and its sustainable management represents a major strategic challenge. The Principality has already undertaken considerable efforts to preserve this precious resource. 

However, the adverse effects of climate change are already being felt on water availability. Periods of water stress have already led to the introduction of initial water-use restrictions in 2023, highlighting the need to anticipate future developments over the long term.

As these phenomena are expected to intensify and further affect natural water resources, additional solutions will need to be considered in order to guarantee a secure and sustainable water supply.

Against this backdrop, the Monaco Water Company SMEAUX has launched a survey among residents of the Principality. Its aim is to gain a better understanding of water-use practices, expectations and perceptions in order to identify the most appropriate technologies to be prioritised in the future.
