On Thursday, 29 January, the Théâtre des Variétés welcomed nearly 400 students from across the Principality, who were invited to watch and vote for their favourite short film as part of the Children’s Award of the 15th edition of the Cinema for Change Festival, supported by the Prince’s Government. In the evening, students from the Sciences Po Paris Menton Campus debated and selected their preferred film for the Students’ Award.

For the 15th consecutive year, the Department of International Cooperation has supported the Festival’s three Youth Awards (Children, Lower and Upper Secondary Students, and University Students), with the aim of raising awareness of development issues and international solidarity.

Marc Obéron, founder of the Festival, presented the six short films competing for the Children’s Award to 18 classes from six schools in the Principality. These films, originating from around the world, illustrate the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in September 2015.

The votes cast by students in Monaco will be added to those of other child jurors taking part in the Festival, enrolled notably in France and in seven partner countries supported by Monaco’s development cooperation programmes*.

In the evening, students from Sciences Po Paris, Mediterranean–Middle East Campus in Menton, also took part in the Festival by watching, voting on and debating the five films preselected for the Students’ Award.

This initiative forms part of a partnership agreement signed in 2014 between the Department of International Cooperation and the Campus, aimed at working together to raise students’ awareness of development issues, rights and the fight against poverty worldwide.

The Cinema for Change Festival awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, 11 April, in Paris.
