Heritage Tours: At the Heart of Monaco

Two guided tours available: Monaco-Ville – Le Rocher and Monte-Carlo & Mareterra, from 1 July to 19 August 2026.

The Heritage Institute is launching a series of heritage tours across the Principality for the 2026 summer season.

With the aim of showcasing the richness and diversity of Monaco's heritage to visitors from around the world, two guided itineraries have been designed to explore the city's most emblematic districts.
Visitors are invited to discover the historic district of Le Rocher, a journey back to the origins of the Principality, and the legendary district of Monte-Carlo, now recognised worldwide, followed by the exploration of Mareterra, the land extension district, a new eco-district that continues to push the boundaries of what is possible.

Join us every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a guided tour in French or English. 

Monaco-Ville, Le Rocher—or A Roca, as it is known by Monegasques—is the historic and institutional heart of the Principality, where tradition and modernity have met for centuries. Established for strategic reasons, this emblematic site embodies the origins of Monaco and the visionary legacy of its rulers.

From François Grimaldi to the present day, the Lords and later the Princes of Monaco have, at every key moment in the Principality's history, protected, developed and enhanced Le Rocher, ensuring its continued prosperity. 

Allow yourself to be guided through an immersive walk along its centuries-old streets, where every stone tells a story. Along the way, you will discover—or rediscover—an authentic Monaco through its architecture, traditions, anecdotes and legends, many of which remain little known to the general public.

Who has never referred to Monaco by mentioning Monte-Carlo? Named after Prince Charles III, this famous district has made the Principality known throughout the world.
Without Monte-Carlo, Monaco would probably not have become the internationally renowned destination it is today. A symbol of prestige and transformation, the district evolved over just a few decades into a global legend.

The story begins during the Belle Époque, when aristocrats flocked to the Monte-Carlo Casino, propelling the city-state onto the international stage.
This guided tour retraces the remarkable story of a district that became both a world-renowned centre for gaming and culture, and the cradle of an urban vision unlike any other.

Today, that story continues with Mareterra, a new eco-district built on land reclaimed from the sea, bringing together some of the world's leading contemporary architects. A remarkable engineering achievement that perpetuates Monaco's spirit of boldness while embracing tomorrow's environmental challenges.

Blending historical heritage, little-known stories and contemporary challenges, this tour reveals Monaco from a fresh perspective, where the past meets the future.

These tours are open to the general public but involve a significant amount of walking throughout the Principality. Participants are therefore advised to wear suitable footwear.
The Le Rocher tour is accessible to persons with reduced mobility.
The Monte-Carlo & Mareterra itinerary includes significant changes in elevation and is therefore more physically demanding. Accessibility for persons with reduced mobility cannot be guaranteed.
