In Monaco, experts finalise the Alpine Biodiversity Action Plan ahead of the 2027 Alpine Conference
Experts from the Biodiversity Working Group of the Alpine Convention, representing Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France and Monaco, met at the Auditorium Rainier III on 12 and 13 February to finalise the new Alpine Biodiversity Action Plan. The Plan will be submitted for adoption at the Alpine Conference in January 2027.
Ms Astrid Claudel-Rusin, Head of Section at the Department of the Environment and co-chair of one of the Committee’s thematic groups, emphasised “the importance of completing the preparation cycle for this Plan and of presenting here in Monaco the results of the work carried out within the four thematic groups — conservation, restoration, connectivity and monitoring — which form the pillars of its implementation.”
The discussions held in Monaco helped align approaches, strengthen synergies and consolidate a shared vision for the Plan, which is intended to address the major challenges facing nature in Alpine regions, in the context of climate change, pressure from human activities on natural environments and evolving land uses.
