Monaco attends the first ever International Space Summit in Paris
The Prince's Government and the Embassy of Monaco in France attended the first International Space Summit, hosted by France in Paris on 9 and 10 September 2026. The event brought together representatives from the space sector to work towards shared commitments on the peaceful, fair, and sustainable use of outer space.
H.E. Ms Valérie Bruell-Melchior, Monaco's Ambassador to France, represented H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince at the Summit, accompanied by staff from the Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
Delegations from more than 90 countries gathered at the Grand Palais to discuss issues of importance for the exploration and use of space. In a climate of major geopolitical change, close cooperation between governments, scientists, and industry is essential if the international community is to address the challenges facing the space sector.
The Summit focused on the science and technology of space exploration, the safety and governance of space activities, and the sector's economic development.
Space technologies play an essential role in everyday life, from weather forecasting and monitoring climate change to satellite navigation and telecommunications. However, the growing number of different organisations operating in the sector and the increasing reliance on these technologies means greater international coordination is crucial. Dependence on space infrastructure, the development of new technologies requiring appropriate regulation, and increasingly congested orbits all present challenges for the future of space activities.
Monaco is fully committed to the peaceful, fair, and sustainable use of outer space, in line with the international legal framework. The Prince's Government's Office for Outer Space Affairs is also developing legal rules which will give Monaco's authorities and organisations the certainty they need to operate safely, whilst keeping pace with developments in the rapidly evolving space sector.
Also at the Summit, Monaco-based firm Venturi Space presented its space vehicles to the international community, including ALTA LUNA, a single-seat vehicle designed to operate around planned lunar bases.
