Monaco celebrates 20 years of diplomatic relations with Slovenia in Ljubljana
At the joint initiative of the Embassy of Monaco and the Consulate of Monaco in Slovenia, a diplomatic and economic event was held in the Slovenian capital on 21 July to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Slovenia.
Bringing together numerous institutional representatives alongside members of the business community, civil society and the diplomatic corps accredited to Ljubljana, the event provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strong ties of friendship between the two countries and their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.
A Monegasque delegation travelled to Ljubljana to take part in the event, including representatives of Invest Monaco, the Monaco Economic Board, the Tourist and Convention Authority, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, SMEG, and several Monegasque companies operating in the green economy sector. The delegation was led by Céline CARON-DAGIONI, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development.
Following opening remarks by Ambassador Anne EASTWOOD, who recalled the significance and objectives of the anniversary, Céline CARON-DAGIONI and Tone KAJZER, Slovenia's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, highlighted the many values shared by the two countries and their common determination to deepen cooperation in support of a sustainable and resilient future.
The morning continued with reciprocal economic presentations and round-table discussions focusing on sustainable development, tourism, sport and innovation. These discussions encouraged the exchange of experience and helped identify new opportunities for cooperation between the Monegasque and Slovenian ecosystems in areas that are central to both countries' development strategies.
On the sidelines of the event, Céline CARON-DAGIONI met with Polona RIFELJ, Slovenia's Minister for the Environment and Urban Planning. Their discussions focused in particular on the shared challenges of the energy transition and sustainable urban development, the issues both countries face and the good practices they have implemented, opening up new prospects for dialogue and future cooperation.
On the economic front, another highlight of the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Monaco Economic Board and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, aimed at strengthening synergies and creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
The event also featured a cultural dimension, with a recital by the Monaco Boys Choir, who were in Ljubljana as part of their European tour.
The day concluded with a luncheon reception hosted by the Embassy of Monaco, bringing this celebration of friendship and strengthened cooperation between the two countries to a close in a warm and convivial atmosphere.
