"Monaco and Spain: Five centuries of shared history": The exhibition continues its tour across Spain
As part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Principality of Monaco's Diplomatic Mission to Spain, the Embassy of Monaco is continuing its programme showcasing the historical ties and the outstanding relationship that have long united the Principality and the Kingdom of Spain.
One of the highlights of this commemorative year is the travelling exhibition 'Monaco and Spain: Five Centuries of Shared History'. Through a carefully curated selection of archival documents, works of art and heritage artefacts, the exhibition traces five centuries of political, diplomatic, cultural and scientific relations that have shaped the enduring ties between the two countries.
The exhibition was inaugurated in Madrid on 1 June 2026 at the Villanueva Pavilion of the Real Jardín Botánico, in the presence of Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain and Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco.
On the occasion of the visit, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, accompanied by his delegation, held a working meeting with His Majesty King Felipe VI, during which the excellent relations between the two countries were reaffirmed. The Sovereign and his delegation were also received by Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain. These meetings once again demonstrated the strength of the political dialogue and cooperation between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain.
Following its successful opening in Madrid, the exhibition has now travelled to Seville, where it was inaugurated on 22 June at the headquarters of the Cajasol Foundation, in the presence of its President, Antonio Pulido Gutiérrez, and representatives of the Andalusian authorities.
The exhibition will next be hosted at the Club de Mar in Palma de Mallorca, before travelling to the Santander Central Library. Its tour of Spain will conclude in Barcelona this autumn.
