Monaco takes part in China International Import Expo in Shanghai

With support from Monaco’s Embassy in China, the Principality set up a National Pavilion at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai from 5 to 10 November 2025.

This is the third time that Monaco has taken part in this major international event held annually in China’s economic capital, having previously done so in 2019 and 2024. The aim of the event is to enable foreign businesses hoping to export to the Chinese market to present their products and services to Chinese businesses and consumers.

By encouraging countries and businesses from all over the world to take part, China seeks to position itself as a key player in the global economy, in trade and in international cooperation.

At this year’s event, the eighth CIIE, the Monaco Pavilion – which attracted the attention of local media and was described as “elegant and refined” by the national TV channel, CCTV – brought together several companies operating in sectors ranging from jewellery, toiletries and storage to food, education, tourism and the environment.

The Monaco Economic Board was represented at the Pavilion by CEO Mr Guillaume Rose, who met representatives from the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce there to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two organisations and their members.

A platform for discussion and cooperation, the CIIE also aims to serve as a catalyst for innovation by offering businesses of all sizes the chance to preview their advanced technologies. This year, there was a particular focus on ecology and sustainable development.

This provided an opportunity for the Monaco Chamber of Renewable Energy and Ecology (CEREM), represented by Secretary-General Ms Joëlle Baccialon, to showcase the expertise and innovative, high-tech solutions offered by Monegasque companies in the green-tech sector.

The CIIE is more than just a platform for promoting economic and trade discussions, however; it also seeks to foster cultural dialogue. The artist Laurence Jenkell, who has been resident in Monaco since 2022, was able to present her catalogue of sculptures and paintings, and to forge contacts with individuals and businesses interested in her work.

For Monegasque participants, the CIIE confirmed its value as a driver of cooperation, demonstrating that in an international context characterised by economic uncertainty, trade friction and geopolitical instability, global trade remains possible and an engine for growth.
