OECD publishes Monaco’s development cooperation profile

Ahead of the fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Seville (Spain) from 30 June to 3 July, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on Wednesday 11 June published the development cooperation profiles of several states for 2025, with the Principality among them.

Monaco formally joined the international community of nations providing government aid to less developed countries in 2023, when it first began reporting the amounts of official development assistance (ODA) granted by the Prince’s Government.

With €637 contributed per inhabitant annually over the period 2022-2024, Monaco is one of the world’s most generous countries in per capita terms, strengthening its position on the global stage. While many countries are cutting their aid budgets - in some cases drastically - Monaco is scaling up its commitment for the next three years by increasing the amount of funding earmarked for ODA, as it has done since 2012.

The Principality’s official development assistance policy is in line the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Its priority aims are to fight poverty and reduce inequalities, especially in the least developed countries (LDCs). Environmental conservation is another major plank of the Principality’s aid policy, and Monaco is the leading per capita contributor to the Green Climate Fund, the main multilateral fund dedicated to helping developing countries tackle climate change challenges.
