Preserving the Mediterranean: RAMOGE, a Pioneering Agreement for 50 Years Ministry of State – Entrance Hall, 29 June – 30 October 2026
This morning at 11:00 a.m., H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince inaugurated, in the entrance hall of the Ministry of State, the exhibition Preserving the Mediterranean: RAMOGE, a Pioneering Agreement for 50 Years (poster attached), jointly prepared by the National Archives of Monaco and the Executive Secretariat of the RAMOGE Agreement, in partnership with the Archives of the Prince's Palace and the Monaco Audiovisual Institute. The exhibition will remain open until 30 October 2026, allowing a wide audience to discover it.
Signed on 10 May 1976 in the Throne Room of the Prince's Palace—a unique event in Monaco's contemporary history for an agreement of this nature—at the initiative of Prince Rainier III, the RAMOGE Agreement brings together France, Monaco and Italy in a shared commitment to protect the marine and coastal environment of an area initially extending from Saint-Raphaël to Genoa, and subsequently expanded from the mouth of the Rhône to that of the Magra. For half a century, this pioneering instrument of trilateral cooperation has carried out concrete actions in the fields of marine biodiversity, pollution prevention and awareness-raising on Mediterranean environmental issues. Fifty years after its signature, it remains at the forefront of marine environmental protection and continues to be the only agreement in the Mediterranean combining an anti-pollution component with biodiversity conservation.

The exhibition retraces the origins, history and major achievements of the Agreement through archival documents, photographs, educational content, testimonies and audiovisual material. It notably presents previously unpublished documents from the RAMOGE Agreement archives, deposited with the National Archives of Monaco in 2025, together with documents from the Prince's Government, the Archives of the Prince's Palace, the Monaco Audiovisual Institute and the French and Italian diplomatic archives. Material from the Oceanographic Institute and the Monaco Scientific Centre has also been used, together with press articles, particularly from the newspapers Nice-Matin and Il Secolo XIX.

A QR code enables visitors to access an English-language version of the exhibition on the RAMOGE website, while an Italian-language visitor's guide is available on site.
The exhibition is also available in a travelling bilingual French-Italian version, currently on display at the Genoa Maritime Station since 28 May, before travelling to France this autumn.
Finally, a virtual version of the exhibition is available on the RAMOGE Agreement website and will also be available on the National Archives website from next November.
