2027 Vehicle Registration Renewals: New Procedures from 1 September

The annual vehicle registration renewal period for 2027 begins on 1 September 2026. Vehicle owners have four months, until 31 December 2026, to renew their registration.

This year's renewal process introduces a major change: the physical registration sticker traditionally affixed to the vehicle's number plate will no longer be issued.

This change forms part of the gradual reforms introduced by the Prince's Government to simplify and modernise vehicle registration procedures. A first step was taken last year with the removal of the year from the registration sticker and changes to the annual renewal timetable.

Once the registration has been renewed, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office will send each vehicle owner a certificate of payment for the registration renewal.

Printed on security paper to ensure its authenticity, the certificate must be kept in the vehicle. It will serve as proof that the vehicle's registration is valid, particularly in the event of a roadside check by officers of the Police Department, in accordance with Article 130 of the Highway Code.

The new certificate will apply to the 55,452 vehicles registered in the Principality, including 5,729 fully electric vehicles.

Owners of fully electric vehicles must also renew their registration each year. However, renewal remains free of charge, in line with the Prince's Government's energy transition policy.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office encourages vehicle owners to renew their registration online through their MonGuichet account or via the Government's official website, gouv.mc.
