The Prince’s Government steps up its policy aimed at reusing school IT equipment

PRESS RELEASE

Following an earlier scheme designed to give a new lease of life to computers used by secondary school pupils, the government is now extending the programme to include teachers’ computers and tablets.

When the time comes for them to be replaced, more than 650 devices will be collected, with some of them refurbished and redistributed as part of an initiative aimed at promoting digital inclusion, the digital transition, and sustainable reuse.

The government, represented by H.E. the Minister of State, has joined forces with EVA, an employer that provides jobs for people with disabilities and specialises in sustainable IT refurbishment and reuse, and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Regional Olympic and Sports Committee (CROS), which coordinates disability sports clubs across the region.

Under the scheme, 38% of the equipment collected will be donated to disability sports clubs in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The refurbished devices will help those organisations improve their day-to-day operations, communicate more effectively with their members, and grow their activities.

Reusing IT equipment extends its lifespan and reduces the need to purchase new devices. It also supports a more sustainable approach to managing resources by ensuring that hardware still in working order can continue to be used.

The initiative also has an important social dimension. EVA is handling the refurbishment whilst helping people who face the greatest barriers to employment find work. The devices are put back into use, creating benefits for both the community and the environment.

This latest initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to using digital technology more responsibly, whilst promoting digital inclusion and access for all.
