Promoting overseas experiences
News post
In a country where more than 120 nationalities coexist, international experience is an integral part of the culture, which is why the Prince's Government is committed to encouraging young Monegasques to study abroad.
These incentives include financial aid in the form of study grants, foreign language scholarships and work experience grants. Interest-free student loans are one of the schemes designed to help students pursue their studies outside the Principality.
There are also mobility schemes in place. The YMS (Youth Mobility Scheme), a bilateral agreement with the United Kingdom, allows young people aged between 18 and 30 from both countries to benefit from a visa which allows them to spend up to two years in either country to gain work experience.
The Monegasque International Volunteer Programme (VIM), aimed at young people aged between 21 and 35 who have a higher education or technical qualification and at least one year's professional experience (internship, project, employment), enables young adults to gain professional humanitarian experience in well-managed conditions, thereby helping to strengthen Monegasque cooperation initiatives. Every year, around ten VIMs work on projects supported by the Department of International Cooperation to meet specific needs identified by its partners.
Furthermore, training and experience gained during stays abroad are recognised across all sectors of economic activity within the Principality. For example, Monaco ENIC Centre supports the professional integration of young people with overseas experience by ensuring that their qualifications are recognised through the issue of a certificate of comparability for higher education qualifications achieved abroad. The Committee for Graduate Employment supports the integration of young Monegasques returning to the job market after spending time outside the Principality.
