Keen to bring about change in society as a whole and to support the empowerment of women and the protection of women's rights, the Prince's Government has formed a Committee to promote and safeguard women’s rights in the Principality.

Established by Sovereign Ordinance on 25 October 2018 and launched on 30 November 2018, the Committee's role is to coordinate, monitor and evaluate national policies relating to the promotion of gender equality and the fight against all forms of violence and discrimination against women.

The Committee is also responsible for coordinating data collection, analysis and dissemination concerning the position of women in Monegasque society.

Exchanging views with its foreign counterparts, it monitors recommendations made by the UN and the Council of Europe monitoring bodies. It is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Working under the Minister of State, the Committee comprises representatives of Monegasque institutions, government departments, the Department of Justice and a country chief women’s rights officer, as well as associations involved in women's rights.

At an international level, the Principality's commitment has already been apparent for several years through its adoption of international conventions at the UN and the Council of Europe, in order to combat violence and discrimination against women across the world, and to promote gender equality to the greatest possible extent.
