Expert assessment reports on the former Collège Charles III expected by the end of the day

The slope stabilisation works being carried out above the former Collège Charles III building (Annonciade, La Rousse district) indicate a favourable evolution of the situation.

The main component of the Principality's Civil Security system, the 148-strong Fire and Emergency Service, works every day for the people of Monaco.

A Military Force unit since 1909, it is placed under the authority of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and responds to orders from the Ministry of Interior.

With 50 members on duty around the clock, the Fire and Emergency Service handles more than 9,500 incidents a year, deploying fire engines on more than 10,500 occasions, with an average of 26 incidents a day, 24% of which serve neighbouring French municipalities under the 1970 Agreement on Mutual Assistance.

Under another Franco-Monegasque Treaty signed in 2004, the Fire and Emergency Service may also join a French detachment to respond to external operations by deploying a small unit of around ten specialised members in the search and rescue of victims of earthquakes or technological hazards. In 2011, Monaco's Fire and Emergency Service joined forces with the French detachment for the first time during search and rescue operations following Japan's megathrust earthquake and tsunami.

The Fire and Emergency Service also plays an active role in risk analysis and prevention throughout the Principality, whether by drafting and monitoring regulations, or by inspecting buildings and public amenities (prior to or on completion of construction, or during inspection visits).
