Today, Friday, 27 November 2020, Mr. Laurent Anselmi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and H.E. Mr. Laurent Stefanini, Ambassador of France to Monaco, renewed the initiative to benefit young people in the Mediterranean region.

In November 2019, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs - via its Inter-ministerial Delegation for the Mediterranean and its Delegation for Civil Society Relations and Partnerships - and the Department of International Cooperation of Monaco launched a joint call for projects to benefit civil society in the Mediterranean region.

More than 200 consortia of associations thus applied last spring:  19 were successful, and began to implement their projects to benefit their communities this autumn.  The initiatives selected included a Moroccan project to provide certified training to young pre-school teachers in the Marrakech area, and a Mauritanian project to provide training for disadvantaged young people and help them find employment.

The aim of this second call for projects, like the previous one, is for consortia of NGOs to be set up on the northern and southern sides of the Mediterranean, offering schemes related to training, mobility, access to employment for young people and the social and solidarity-based economy, for the benefit of young people in the Mediterranean region.  New features of this second call for projects are an increased budget and the extension of applications to an additional country, Lebanon, which thus joins Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.

"I am delighted with the renewal of this joint initiative with the French authorities, as well as the extension of this call for projects to Lebanon, a country which is a friend of the Principality and a partner of  the Monegasque authorities in charge of Official Development Assistance.  I hope this second call for projects will be as successful as the first in benefitting young people in the Mediterranean region," declared Mr. Anselmi.

H.E. Mr. Laurent Stefanini stated that, "France welcomes this essential partnership with the Principality of Monaco, which is at the service of the youth of the Mediterranean area - it demonstrates our shared commitment to improving the situation of young people in the countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean and building bridges between NGOs on both shores.  This new call for projects, which has been expanded and extended to Lebanon, responds to a real need for cooperation, especially in these uncertain and difficult times, due to the pandemic. »

This partnership reflects the perfect synergy between French and Monegasque cooperation activities to promote development in Africa and the shores of the Mediterranean.
