What if the Principality of Monaco and Singapore shared the same digital vision...? This was what emerged when the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the Smart Nation for this small Asian state, at the cutting edge of a digital transition which is already well underway, visited the Principality.

On Thursday 14 November, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan was welcomed to the Principality by his Monegasque counterpart Frédéric Genta, the Country Chief Digital Officer, for a day of bilateral discussions.

To illustrate the exchanges of view on the two countries’ digital models and present specific aspects of the Principality’s #ExtendedMonaco programme, the Singaporean Minister was taken to the Condamine Fire Station during the afternoon for a live demonstration of the use of drones in emergency management, which has been made possible by the roll-out of Monaco Telecom’s brand-new 5G network, under the watchful eye of Christophe Prat, Director General of the Ministry of Interior.

Later, Dr Balakrishnan headed to the Monegasque Government’s Campus Digital premises in Fontvieille. Since the beginning of this year, Campus Digital has become a laboratory used to educate and train civil servants and state employees on new digital tools.

On Friday, Dr Balakrishnan will take part in a meeting of the Monaco Digital Advisory Council, of which he a prominent member of the group of eight international figures who have been asked to share their expertise with the Principality as it moves resolutely forward with its digital transition.

To conclude his trip to Monaco, he will once again meet Minister of State Serge Telle, along with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Laurent Anselmi, during a dinner at the Ministry of State Residence.
