Foundation stone laid for new Beausoleil slip road on A8 motorway

On Tuesday 13 July 2021, the foundation laying ceremony was held for work on the new A8 slip road at the access to the Beausoleil service station.

The ceremony was attended by Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development of the Principality of Monaco; Yoann Toubhans, representing the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes and Deputy Prefect of Nice-Montagne; Xavier Beck, First Vice-President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department and Mayor of Cap d’Ail; Jean-Claude Guibal, President of the French Riviera Conurbation Community and Mayor of Menton; Jean-Jacques Raffaele, Vice-President of the French Riviera Conurbation Community and Mayor of La Turbie; Alexandra Valetta-Ardisson, member of the French National Assembly for the Alpes-Maritimes 4^th district; and Blaise Rapior, CEO of Escota and Deputy CEO of Vinci Autoroutes.

This development project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2022, aims to improve access to Monaco and offer a partial response to traffic problems and journey times, as well as to the safety challenges posed by vehicles travelling through La Turbie.

Every day, nearly 47,000 people travel to Monaco for work purposes and the steady increase in traffic has, over time, made these journeys more difficult for regular users. This new link, which provides an interchange between the A8 motorway and the departmental network (RD 2564 – Grande Corniche), should help to relieve other access routes to the Principality (including the A500 tunnel and the Moyenne Corniche) and improve traffic conditions between La Turbie and Menton.

The total cost of the project is €6.06 million (before tax), which is shared as follows:

-             Principality of Monaco: €2.145 million

-             Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council: €1.235 million

-             French Riviera Conurbation Community: €200,000

-             Escota Network/VINCI Autoroutes: €2.480 million

During a speech to mark the occasion, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development Marie-Pierre Gramaglia emphasised “the fantastic spirit of cooperation that has brought the French authorities and the Government of Monaco together” and added: “Facilitating accessibility and inbound and outbound trade is the result of joint work [...] which will continue over the years to come with the development of heavy infrastructure as well as projects to improve access by train or by sea.”
