On Wednesday 18 May, the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) brought the 15th Youth CESE, set up in October 2021, to a close. The closing session was attended by Caroline Rougaignon-Vernin, Chair of the CESE, and Frédéric Genta, Country Chief Officer for Attractiveness and the Digital Transition, who was selected to be this year’s sponsor and honorary chair.

Established in November 2007 at the initiative of members of the Economic and Social Council (which was renamed the CESE in 2019), the Youth Economic, Social and Environmental Council was set up in close collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Sport. The experience, which captures the “spirit of the CESE”, gives young people the opportunity to have their voices heard in public debate, focusing on discussion themes of interest to civil society. The event is run every year on a voluntary basis.

Supported and guided by their teachers and the CESE secretariat, the young secondary school pupils from Lycée Albert I, Lycée François d’Assise Nicolas Barré and Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School met throughout the year with professionals who helped them to develop and present four proposals during the closing session:

- Creating an eco-friendly starter pack and logo aimed at businesses and shops in the Principality (Lycée Albert I);

- Installing piezoelectric paving in the Principality of Monaco (Lycée Albert I);

- Creating a recruitment speed dating event and digital forum aimed at young people seeking seasonal employment in the Principality of Monaco (Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School);

- Organising a cycling race during the Grand Prix (Lycée FANB).

After being put to a vote, the proposals will be included on the agenda for the plenary meeting of the senior CESE’s spring session, on 21 June 2022, and will be passed on to the country’s authorities at the same time as the work of the CESE itself.
