The symbolic milestone of 100 Responsible Traders and Responsible Restaurants was reached at the end of summer 2022 in Monaco. To showcase these eco-friendly businesses, the Department of the Environment and its partner, Ecoscience Provence, wanted to create a short film and a directory of all the certified traders and restaurants. These were unveiled on Friday 2 December at Stars’N’Bars by Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development.

Valérie Davenet, Director of the Department of the Environment, invited the press, partners and certified businesses to Stars’N’Bars (which has itself been a Responsible Restaurant since 2017) to celebrate the occasion.

The short film by Franck Florino illustrates the eco-friendly practices followed by the businesses through the artistic expression of Mr OneTeas, an artist and painter who invites the public to learn more about the certification from a different perspective, and to consider alternative ways of consuming.

The directory, illustrated with black-and-white photographs by Jean-Charles Vinaj, features a presentation of the initiatives and lists all certified businesses in the Principality. “We wanted to shine a light on the certified businesses to encourage them to continue their eco-friendly approach. We also wanted to raise the profile of the certifications and let consumers know that a sustainable consumption solution exists in the Principality,” explained Valérie Davenet.

This celebration is the sign of a strong commitment on the part of the Principality’s businesses, a hundred of whom have now been awarded the government’s Responsible Trader or Responsible Restaurant certification, and have put in place specific actions to reduce waste, save resources and combat food waste.

The Responsible Trader certification, introduced by the Department of the Environment and Ecoscience Provence in 2016, offers tailored support to businesses, which are able to access awareness and information tools. Businesses can also play an active role in changing their customers’ consumption habits and supporting local efforts.
