Careers Guidance Week for lower secondary school pupils

©DR

It is in Year 10 (Troisième) that pupils have to make some choices about their futures for the first time, deciding between the three educational paths that are open to them: general, technological or vocational.

At this stage, the aim is not for pupils to choose a specific field of study, but to learn more about the occupations that might match their interests, preferences and wishes. It is also about giving them a chance to clearly identify the academic paths which could help them pursue these occupations.

The school year is punctuated with key moments that prepare the pupils to move on to upper secondary school: completing the careers guidance booklet, having an individual discussion with guidance counsellors and psychologists, and choosing their preferred path.

To enable pupils to explore their options for future study, a Careers Guidance Week is being held this month at the two lower secondary schools in the Principality, one state school and one private school operating under contract, to supplement the many activities that already take place in each school.

Meetings with professionals and students representing various sectors (IT, sport, humanitarian work, the arts, the environment, medicine, the police, tourism, etc.) are planned for Careers Guidance Week to allow the sharing of experience, knowledge, skills and opinions.

In addition to these opportunities for discussion, there will be presentations by teams from the Academic Counselling and Education Resource Centre (CIEN) and of special careers guidance software.

The meetings will help pupils to make plans for their future studies in accordance with their wishes and their potential.
