The Principality represented at the Plenary meeting of the Egmont group in Sydney

The Service d’Information et de Contrôle des Circuits Financiers (SICCFIN), the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Monaco, took part in the 25^th plenary session of the Egmont Group, held in Sydney, Australia, from 24 to 28 September 2018.

The Egmont Group is an international organisation that now includes 159 FIUs.  Its mission is to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).  To this end, it implements training courses and puts mechanisms in place to strengthen the cooperation of FIUs at the global level.

Monaco was represented by a completely renewed delegation, comprised of Mr. Philippe Boisbouvier, Technical Advisor and Acting Director of SICCFIN, Ms. Jenny Perrot and Ms. Karine Imbert, Heads of Section responsible for analyses (see photo 1, from left to right).

This week was particularly fruitful for the members of SICCFIN.  They were able to take part and play an active role in the work of the various working groups and also had the opportunity to attend operational training sessions on topics such as corruption, the autonomy of FIUs, the regulation and analysis of financial flows using virtual currencies, combating networks of professional money launderers and the need to develop public/private partnerships.

This international meeting was also an opportunity for Mr. Philippe Boisbouvier to sign a cooperation agreement with Togo (see photo 2).  This brings the number of cooperation agreements signed by SICCFIN and its foreign counterparts to 56.

Contacts were also made with regard to the signature of new agreements at the next Egmont Group meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, in January 2019.
