Annual bitter orange harvest - Free distribution to local people

©Direction de la Communication / Manuel Vitali

Gardeners from the Department of Urban Amenities are currently undertaking their annual pruning of the Principality’s bitter orange trees.

The Principality has 700 citrus trees (orange, lemon, clementine, etc.), and 500 of them are untreated bitter orange trees. Every year, during January and February, the Department of Urban Amenities’ gardeners prune the various fruit trees and harvest the bitter oranges that grow on the trees lining the thoroughfares in the Condamine, Moneghetti and Monte-Carlo districts.

As in previous years, anyone who would like to enjoy some of this annual bitter orange harvest should approach the gardeners on the streets. In 2021, one tonne of fruit, from the approximately 11 tonnes harvested, was distributed to local people free of charge.

The gardeners will be pruning and harvesting the trees in accordance with the following schedule:

- Condamine Sector:

9 to 21 January: Rue Grimaldi

- Moneghetti Sector:

17 to 28 January: Boulevard de Belgique

- Monte-Carlo Sector:

24 to 28 January: Avenue de Grande Bretagne

31 January to 4 February: Boulevard de Suisse and

Boulevard d’Italie
