Two refuse collection areas in Monaco-Ville accessible to residents and traders with magnetic key

As part of a bid to constantly improve the quality of life and environmental protection in the Principality, the Department of Urban Amenities and the Monegasque Sanitation Company (SMA) last year carried out a review of waste management in Monaco-Ville.

“This review was undertaken because the layout of Monaco-Ville makes it difficult for refuse collection vehicles to get around. This prompted us, working together with SMA, to establish two refuse collection areas, ‘Remparts’ and ‘Don Paquito’,” explains Jean-Luc Puyo, Director of the Department of Urban Amenities.

These collection areas are heavily used and have required additional collections to be put in place by SMA. The areas will soon be equipped with bins for glass, packaging, cardboard and household waste, as well as a cardboard compactor. At the same time, magnetic locks have been installed which, from 10 May, will limit access to the collection areas exclusively to local residents and traders who have a magnetic key.

The keys have been issued since the end of 2015 in exchange for a 10-euro deposit, but will now be given out free of charge. Deposits already paid by Rocher residents and traders will be returned.

Users can collect their refunded deposits from the Ministry of State reception office on:

  • Tuesday 23 February 2016 from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
  • Wednesday 2 March 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If this is not convenient, users can contact Laurence Marty (Department of Urban Amenities) on 98 98 48 37.
