Forest Day, 18 September 2021

Journée de la Forêt 2021

The forest, a source of well-being!

In partnership with the National Forestry Office, the Prince's Government is celebrating the forest!

Just a stone's throw away, between Monaco and the Italian border, is a land of history, the rich natural and cultural heritage of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, which stretches from the coast to a hilltop village at an altitude of 225 metres. Let's set off on the walking trail that leads up to Mont-Gros!

This event is an opportunity to showcase the forest, trees, wood, the work of the foresters and the partnership between the National Forestry Office (ONF) and the Department of Urban Amenities (DAU) of the Prince's Government.

In the public forests (State and municipal), foresters from the ONF work on a daily basis to ensure the sustainability and vitality of the forests and to meet three indissociable objectives:  to produce wood, a sustainable material;  to preserve the environment and to welcome the public.  This synergy forms the basis of sustainable forest management.

The forest is a source of oxygen and well-being and is a place of relaxation, offering many outdoor activities.  On foot, by bike or on horseback, alone or with family or friends, the forest can be enjoyed to the full.  It awakens the imagination and the senses and brings calm, serenity and contemplation, and much more.

There are so many benefits to discover.  Taking care of the forest also means taking care of yourself!

The Alpes-Maritimes/Var territorial agency of the ONF is offering a free activity, with online booking, subject to the health constraints in force.

Brochure de la journée au Mont Gros

In the Alpes-Maritimes, on Saturday 18 September from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., "Set off on the ascent of Mont-Gros."

"Mont-Gros, a rounded peak surrounded by sheer limestone rocks, dominates the bay of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. The panoramic view invites you to gaze on the constant movements of multicoloured paragliders and hang-gliders floating in the wind.  In the background, there's an azure sky and the Southern Alps, plunging down into the Mediterranean.  Close your eyes and see yourself as one of those paragliders!  Set off on an hour-and-a-half's walk to ascend Mont-Gros with the foresters of the National Forestry Office, and discover the paths where Man works to protect nature."

About the ONF:

The ONF is a major player in the forestry and wood industry;  it manages almost 11 million hectares of public forests. On a day-to-day basis, the foresters' work is centred on three indissociable objectives:  wood production, environmental protection and public access.  The ONF carries out public service missions in the field of natural risk management and offers services to local authorities and companies.
