APIdays in Monaco - 9th Event
The 2018 APIdays, organised by the beekeepers of the National Union of French Beekeeping (UNAF) in more than 120 partner sites in France, French territory overseas and Monaco, took place on Friday 15 June on the theme of "The link between bees and food via pollination."
This event was an opportunity for schoolchildren and the general public to find out about the essential role bees play in the preservation of plant biodiversity, and, more generally, our environment.
At this event, Year 6 pupils from the Ecole St Charles and the Ecole de Fontvielle were able to be present at the honey harvesting and extraction process, with the beekeepers from the Department of Urban Amenities. They also took part in workshops to raise awareness of the crucial role of bees in pollination.
As a reminder, the aim of the partnership between Monaco and the "The Bee, Sentinel of the Environment" programme is to alert public opinion to the serious consequences of the disappearance of bees. Several hives have been installed on the flat roof of the Museum of Philately and Coinage in Fontvieille since the Principality signed the Charter of this programme in 2011.
