Prints of Plants – A Workshop at the Villa Paloma, Open to All

The New National Museum of Monaco is holding a workshop for the general public this Saturday, 11 May, at the Villa Paloma.  It will be led by Camille Barlerin, in connection with the exhibition of a work by Michel Blazy, Collection de chaussures (Shoe Collection).

The work Collection de chaussures (2015-2019), by Michel Blazy, was produced for the 57th Venice Biennale.  It was on show at the Villa Sauber as part of an exhibition by the artist, and then in the gardens of the Villa Paloma alongside Sculptcure (2001-present) and Sans titre (Untitled) (2014)  - a maple tree with bark entirely covered with gold leaf.  Collection de chaussures consists of a frame within which a complex device displays and feeds plants growing in training shoes, which have been transformed into planters.  While the display was inspired by commercial thinking, the idea of a frame suggests a completely different relationship to Nature and our responsibilities towards it.

In 2017, Camille Barlerin, an editorial graphic design student, created a box containing cards to be filled in, bags of seeds and a USB stick for the maintenance of the Collection de chaussures.

Camille Barlerin has been invited in connection with the Care&Repair programme, and will host a workshop for the general public on the Collection de chaussures, with a particular focus on the plants that are growing in it.

Each participant will contribute to a shared publication that will list the plant species displayed in the training shoes.  Botanical and iconographic research will lead to an editorial composition by each of the participants;  then this will be collated together to create the finished presentation box.

The workshop will take place from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Participation is free, subject to availability:  public@nmnm.mc
