Celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the birth of internationally renowned Monegasque sculptor François-Joseph Bosio are continuing in the Principality. From today, an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the artist will be open to the public in the State Apartments of the Prince’s Palace.

Organised around four themes – “The Monegasque”, “Depicter of the Empire”, “Neoclassicism and Mythology” and “Harbinger of the Restoration”, the exhibition “The 250th Anniversary of the Birth of François-Joseph Bosio, Monegasque Sculptor” presents some of the artist’s most famous works, drawn from the collections of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) and the Palace, as well as archive documents on his Monegasque roots. Particularly notable are the two mythological nudes Hyacinth and The Nymph Salmacis, as well as busts of Napoleon I and Josephine, King Louis XVIII and King Charles X.

Conceived and executed by the Prince’s Palace Archives in collaboration with the NMNM, the exhibition has received support from Stéphanie Deschamps-Tan, curator at the Louvre for nineteenth-century sculptures, a Bosio specialist and the author of an article on the sculptor published in a special commemorative edition of Connaissance des Arts issued this year.
