Prince Pierre Foundation - Finalists for High-School Pupils’ Favourite Choice Award 2023
The jury for the Prince Pierre Foundation High-School Pupils’ Favourite Choice Award 2023, comprising Year 11 (Seconde) pupils from Lycée Albert I, Lycée François d’Assise Nicolas Barré and Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School, met to agree the shortlist of novels in contention for the prize.

Awarded every year since 2007, the prize recognises a young author for their first novel. From the eight novels preselected at the beginning of the school year, the following were selected:
- Judith Elmaleh, Une reine [A Queen], Robert Laffont
- Mona Messine, Biche [Doe], Livres agités
- Julia Minkowski, Par-delà l’attente [Beyond Expectation], JC Lattès
- Léna Paul-Le-Garrec, Lulu, Buchet Chastel
- Mathieu Pieyre, Le professeur d’anglais [The English Teacher], Éditions Arléa
On 6 June, the selected authors will have the opportunity to come and make the case for their book before the jury at an event in the Principality. The pupils will then have the summer holidays to complete their reading and consider their final choice before a vote which will be held when they return to school. The winner will be revealed at the Prince Pierre Foundation Award Ceremony on 10 October 2023 in Monaco.
Created in 2007 in collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, the High-School Pupils’ Favourite Choice Award, given for a first novel, offers a €6,000 prize donated by the Princess Grace Foundation. This is a truly educational project which aims to increase pupils’ awareness of contemporary literature and the world of publishing.
