Philosophical Encounters of Monaco: Issue No. 4 published

Issue No. 4 of the annual publication Le Cahier des Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco (The Philosophical Encounters of Monaco Journal) has just been released. Comprising 186 pages, the journal has been produced in collaboration with Alain Fleischer, Director of Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains (National Studio for Contemporary Arts). It can be purchased from the Philosophical Encounters website: www.philomonaco.com .

The aim of Philosophical Encounters of Monaco, which was founded in 2015 by Charlotte Casiraghi, Joseph Cohen, Robert Maggiori and Raphael Zagury-Orly, is to promote philosophy through monthly workshops that give guests an opportunity to deepen their knowledge, engage in discussion and share ideas on the theme of the year (themes have included Love in 2015/2016, The Body in 2016/2017, Containing the Violence Within in 2017/2018, and The Human Being in 2018/2019).

An annual symposium is held over two days in June on a specific theme (Meeting in 2016, Conversation in 2017 and House of Philosophy in 2018). At the symposium, a jury of prominent thinkers presents the Philosophical Encounters of Monaco Award to a work of philosophy published in French during the year preceding the award, the Honourable Mention, which honours a French-language publisher which has distinguished itself in the field of publishing philosophical works and, finally, the Lycée Student Award, which is presented to a pupil for an essay on a chosen subject.

This year, Philosophical Encounters of Monaco are also organising a series of days titled “Young Philosophers” from 8 to 11 May. The goal is to raise young people’s awareness of philosophy and make it more accessible to them.
